1994 Gruner Veltliner Honivogl

The 1994 Gruner Veltliner Smaragd Honivogl was made from grapes harvested on November 15th. The wine displays a terrific nose of ripe fruit and an exotic, spice component. With ostentatious aromas and flavors, as well as a finish that lasts for 30+ seconds, this rich, deep, full-bodied, dry wine is a knock-out example of Gruner Veltliner. It rivals those produced by F. X. Pichler and Ludwig Hiedler. Franz Hirtzberger's 1994s performed splendidly in my tasting and readers are encouraged to try and find a bottle or two of his exquisite wines.
