Score 92/100 · Drink 2024-2034, Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate, Feb 2025

Notes of espresso, smoke, oak and dark berries preface the 2022 Cote Rotie la Viailliere, a medium to full-bodied, introverted and dense Côte-Rôtie framed by structured tannins and a linear, slightly austere mid-palate at this stage. Finishing long, oaky and smoky, it will benefit from time to integrate its prominent oak influence. This pure Syrah, entirely destemmed and crafted from vines planted on schist and mica schist soils, was matured for 22 months in a combination of large barrels, of which 40% were new.

The 2022 Côte-Rôtie La Viallière emerges with marked leather, black cherry, cedar and graphite notes. Finishing a little rustic and astringent, the concentrated 2022 will never be a charmer.
