Tasting notes
This is the most representative wine of this La Morra-based estate. The Figli Luigi Oddero 2020 Barolo Rive Vigna Specola draws its fruit from 60-year-old vines planted near the winery. Yields are naturally low due to the advanced age of the plants, so there is no need to drop fruit. This results in a darker, richer and riper expression of Nebbiolo without the same tannic backbone that we see in the other wines. This wine offers mineral notes, iodine and pressed rose. It ages in oak for 24 months followed by one year in bottle. The tannins are less impactful, but the wine compensates with medium-plus concentration and lots of fruity ripeness, especially in this hot vintage. This is a 1,200-bottle release.

La Morra. Old vines (60+ years) in the Rive cru at 250 m above sea level, a warm spot with a full-south exposure on sandy, calcareous clay. Lustrous mid ruby. Still very tight and subtly aromatic on the nose with a hint of black pepper and with a balsamic lift. Succulent yet light of touch, and with fragrant fruit. Lots of chewy tannins that need time to settle. Promising. (WS)
