Tasting notes
Mostly Chardonnay, but a ‘selection of our finest white grapes’. The various grape varieties get picked as soon as the Chardonnay reaches optimum maturity. All varieties get crushed and pressed together after which they also ferment together in new French oak barriques. Part of the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation, after which it is matured for another 10 months in barrique with lees being regularly stirred up. The finished wine is bottle aged for at least six months before being released. RS 1.6 g/l, TA 5.2 g/l. Amazing orange peel on the nose. Almost marmalade. Glorious on the palate: ginger, oranges, cumin-spiced. A depth of flavour which probes the mind as much as the mouth. Slightly dusty and absolutely delicious. Stunning. (TC)

Mainly Chardonnay but including all the white varieties from the estate. Light oak spice on the nose. Lovely creamy aroma. Has a definite savoury, mealy quality. Rich with a hint of mandarin, intense and complex and beautifully integrated. (JH)
Elena Walch's 2015 Alto Adige Beyond The Clouds is a wine of density and richness, yet it also manages to feel feather light on the palate. That special quality of showing concentration without feeling heavy has also defined past editions of this Chardonnay-based blend from the far north of Italy. The other grapes used are aromatic, and you do get notes of honey, exotic fruit and night-blooming jasmine. Some 14,000 bottles were produced.
