Tasting notes
Bright saturated ruby. Musky, balsamic aromas of truffle, meat and earth; closer to full maturity than the 2006 and 2005. Plush, fat and sweet, conveying an impression of baby fat. Doesn't have the acidity or lift of the very best vintages but very rich, ripe and approachable, offering flamboyant flavors of bacon fat, smoked game, mocha and black olive. This very plush, dry wine spreads out horizontally to saturate the palate, finishing with supple tannins and excellent saline length.

One glorious bottle of wine and utter perfection in a glass is the 2007 Kongsgaard Syrah Hudson Vineyard! This outrageous Syrah boast jaw-dropping aromas of crème de cassis, charred toast, chocolate, and spice that glide effortlessly into a full-bodied, heavenly textured palate that is perfectly balanced and loaded with masses of incredibly polished tannin structure. Despite the overall size here, this has a level of detail and verve that is off the charts. I could not find a fault with this beauty and wanted nothing more than to pour a full glass and kick back on the couch. Given the overall balance and inherent finesse and elegance, this should age effortlessly for 15 to 20 years. One thrilling bottle of Napa Valley Syrah that I wish everyone could taste!
(50% new oak) Full medium ruby. Smoked meat and gunflint on the nose; reminded me of a serious Hermitage. Then dense and brooding in the mouth, with a distinctly wild quality to its intense flavors of raspberry, smoked bacon and gravel. For all its size, this boasts terrific lift and grip, and an extravagant personality. Carrying 15% alcohol with a pH of 3.9. It's also the only wine in the cellar that isn't aged in essentially 100% new oak.
Aromas of tapenade, bacon fat, and scorched earth emerge from the 2007 Syrah Hudson Vineyard. The complex aromatics are followed by rich, thick flavors with elegance as well as good definition. There is slightly more minerality apparent in this full-bodied 2007 than in the 2008. Drink it during its first decade of life. From a top vintage for proprietor/winemaker John Kongsgaard, the 2007 Chardonnays are among the finest he has made to date. They combine great richness and bold flavor profiles with extraordinary minerality and definition. One-hundred percent whole clusters are used for the Syrahs, and Kongsgaard’s Syrahs have a very distinctive style. Fax: (707) 963-4512
