Carruades offers a floral nose, with lilac and violet aromas lifting from the glass. There’s both delicacy and intensity here, with blueberry and cassis fruit behind. The palate is pure and bright, silken with very fine, powdered tannins. The acidity gives bite and crunch, mouth-wateringly juicy without verging toward tart. A fine and dainty expression of Carruades that has everything in place. Aged in 50% new oak, 12.9% alcohol and 3.6pH. Blend: 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 47% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot

The 2024 Carruades de Lafite is a blend of 47% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Cabernet France and 2% Petit Verdot. Unwinding in the glass to reveal aromas of dark berries, plums, lilac and tobacco leaf, it's medium-bodied, lively and open-knit, with a moderately persistent finish.

Gorgeous deep plum colour, very juicy, extremely well handled, savoury and mouthwatering, cassis bud, roses, crayon, shorter on the finish than a typical Carruades, but this has plenty of subtle pleasure and will be ready to drink sooner than usual. Harvest 23 September to 7 October, 32hl/h yield, 47% of the harvest is in this wine, 12% press.

This is a stern, chiselled Carruades with all the typical splendour decanted into a slimline, firm, narrow-hipped model. There is considerable action on the back of the palate, which changes the direction of the energy flow, resulting in a distinct game of two halves. At first, there is glamour and grandeur, driven by a calmness of attack which suits this label, and then it firms up with superb bitterness and acid/tannin tension. Yum. I cannot wait to see how ‘24 Carruades ages. It has all the ingredients for a long and fascinating life.
