Tasting notes
Unterloiben. Big, warm vineyard, nearly 36 ha ranging west to south-east, mainly paragneiss. Knoll's Riesling parcels are mainly at the top of the hill, the Grüners further down. Certified Sustainable Austria. Oh lovely. Silky, ripe, generous fruit, not too over the top, just as inviting as an apricot orchard in full fruit. And very Grüner Veltliner in that white-pepper spice and sweet apricot fruit. Fades out a little quickly given all the fruit up front but it strikes a pretty impressive and delicious balance. (TQT)

The 2023 Grüner Veltliner Loibenberg Smaragd was picked in both loess- and gneiss-dominated parcels between the foot and the mid-slope of this site. Moss and yeast charm on the nose. The warmth and softness of the site become apparent on the palate with more ripeness and fill. Smooth depth holds pepper, zest and white miso. This wine expands at the core and tapers back into a fresh finish with quite some understated power. (Bone-dry)
