The 2023 Beaune 1er Cru Les Theurons (Domaine Gagey) has turned out beautifully, bursting with aromas of cherries, plums, licorice and dark berries. Medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, it exemplifies the charm of the vintage at its best.

12–15 months in barrel. Cask sample. Vibrant, lightish cherry red. A step up from the Jadot and Gagey Savignys in terms of aroma intensity. Red-fruited and peppery. Still relatively light on the palate but scented and fresh, with firm, polished and very fine tannins. Harmonious, with moderate depth. (JH)
The 2023 Beaune Les Theurons 1er Cru has a clean and precise bouquet, though it needs a little more fruit concentration to compete with Jadot's other Beaune Premiers. It comes across a little conservative, though it does open after five minutes. The palate is medium-bodied with a sorbet-fresh opening. Slightly powdery in texture, there is decent depth to this Beaune, though it doesn't quite possess the concentration of some of Jadot's other cuvées from the appellation. Still, it is nimble and light on its feet.

Louis Jadot is arguably the most consistent négociant house in Burgundy. It has managed to straddle both the entry-level and fine wine market, while retaining respect in both.
