The 2023 Volnay Clos des Chênes 1er Cru has a clean and precise bouquet with vibrant red cherry and wild strawberry scents, superb mineralité and ample tension. This unfurls beautifully in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with chiseled tannins, pure red fruit, heightened crushed stone elements and a very cohesive and lingering finish. This is better than the 2022.

Picked on the same day as Caillerets, which they are just above. If anything, slightly sultrier, but still a gorgeous expression of pinot. Firmer stricter behind, in fact quite massive, will need all its elevage. Cooler fruit in the mouth than the nose suggested.
