Tasting notes
This is a blend of 96% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Cabernet Franc. This is the first vintage where 100% of the fruit for this vintage came from Morlet’s new “Coeur de Vallee” vineyard in Oakville—just across the road from To Kalon. Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Coeur de Vallee opens with wonderfully pure notions of crushed blackberries, wild blueberries and black cherries with hints of black currant cordial, Chinese five spice, candied violets and licorice, plus a touch of garrigue. Full-bodied, the voluptuously fruited palate offers layers of black and blue fruits with a velvety texture and seamless freshness, finishing long and savory. 245 cases were made. (LPB)

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Coeur de Valle is a gracious, elegant wine. Silky tannins and mid-weight structure give the 2018 superb polish. Sweet florals and spices are laced into a core of inky red/purplish berry fruit. This is an especially understated vintage for the Coeur de Valle, but all the elements are so impeccably balanced. This is a remarkable wine for a vineyard that were just four years old at the time. (AG)
The 2014 Morlet Estate comes from the western foothills just north of St. Helena and is 99% Cabernet Sauvignon. It has a Pauillac-like austerity as well as awesome notes of black fruits, graphite, lead pencil shavings and loamy soils. Fresh, focused, full-bodied and powerful, this classic, structured Cabernet Sauvignon needs 2-4 years of bottle age but will have 20-25 years of overall longevity. I loved these latest releases from Luc Morlet and family, and they show a sensational mix of classic, balanced, even old-school, characters mixed with killer California fruit. As a whole, the 2014s show more elegance and complexity, with the 2015s possessing more power and richness. These are rockstar wines.
Great depth and intensity on the nose with blackcurrants, blueberries, mocha and light coffee. Yet this is always so refined. Full-bodied yet tight and reserved with fantastic texture and depth. Handmade.
