Tasting notes
Medium garnet-brick colored, the 2005 Ancient Way Vineyard Summer's Vineyard gives up stewed tea, tobacco and tilled earth scents over a core of plum preserves, mincemeat pie, cherry cordial and chocolate box plus touches of truffles and smoky bacon. Full-bodied, rich and spicy in the mouth, it has compelling earthy accents and a good long finish.

Opaque ruby. Deeply pitched dark fruit preserve aromas show a superripe, decadent character, with notes of candied flowers, olive paste and pipe tobacco adding complexity. Broad, fleshy and smoky on the palate, offering an array of dark fruit liqueur and exotic spice flavors and a touch of candied licorice. Finishes with serious cling, plush tannins and resonating smoke and berry compote notes.
Manages to be dense and elegant at the same time, playing its dark plum, fresh fig and spice flavors against superslick tannins, letting it all expand beautifully on the long, expressive finish.
