Crushed stone, burnt lime, white apricot, dried pineapple and clove on the nose. Medium-bodied, crisp and compact. Fantastic concentration and focus. Still tightly wound. Great finish with dried fruit and a spicy aftertaste. Very dry at the end! Drink or hold.

The 2020 Chenin Blanc has a light bouquet of dandelion and wax aromas that gently unfold in the glass. The palate is well balanced with fine weight and a lovely resinous texture. Not complex but very nuanced toward the finish, where a touch of albumen lingers on the aftertaste. Not bad, but it needs more substance.
Full bottle a modest 1,294 g. For the first time, now that Plat’bos has been added, this contains grapes from all three of their single vineyards, together with fruit from four other Chenin Blanc vineyards. 2020 was an extremely small, drought-shrunk vintage spread over four weeks with only 20 picking days. Some wine fermented and aged in concrete. Honey and revitalising light struck-match character on the nose. Beautiful texture and balance in a wine you could drink immediately but which has structure lurking under the very pure, well-composed blend. Not as complex as the single-vineyard wines but hugely pleasing. Ends on a suggestion of Granny Smith apples. (JR)
