Score 90/100 · Drink 2022-2032, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Mar 2020

The 2017 Yon-Figeac offers good energy and plenty of aromatic lift, but it feels a bit light. With a little more richness, it could be a materially more engaging wine. Sweet raspberry, floral and mocha notes grace the understated finish. Even if it is a bit compact and not as persistent as it could be, Yon-Figeac is quite pretty and finessed in 2017. Tasted two times.

The 2017 Yon-Figeac has an understated bouquet with redcurrant and raspberry fruit, lighter than its peers but nicely focused. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, fine acidity with just a little woodiness marring the finish. Give it another couple of years in bottle.

The 2017 Chateau Yon-Figeac checks in as a mix of 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, and the balance Petit Verdot, all aged 12 months in French oak. It offers plenty of Merlot charm in its ripe red and black cherry fruits, earthy tobacco, and spice-driven aromas and flavors. Medium-bodied, mid-weight yet nicely textured, drink this charming, easygoing Saint-Emilion over the coming 7-8 years.

The 2017 Yon-Figeac feels rather dusty on the nose compared to its peers, missing the same level of freshness and purity. The palate is medium-bodied with a little greenness on the entry whilst the oak feels too dominant on the finish and suppresses terroir expression.
