Very dark, black core. Cassis and a slight note of burnt rubber. Juicy texture but the finish is a bit abrupt and there's a slight bitterness on the finish even though there is a lot of dark fruit. (JH)

Over the last four or five years, this property has risen from one of the most disappointing grand cru classes of St.-Emilion to one of the best. The strong, positive, authoritative 2011 exhibits an opaque blue/purple color along with copious aromas of blueberries, black raspberries, graphite and crushed chalk. It offers an attractive attack, a solidly rich mid-palate and a light to moderately tannic finish. One of the more complete wines to be found in this vintage, this medium-bodied wine will benefit from 2-3 years of cellaring, and should drink well over the following 15 years. It is a sleeper of the vintage.

Opulent, rich, sweet fruit but a nicely contrasting savoury finish. Attractive meatiness and good persistence suggests much more to come here. Lovely mix between the modernist, rich St-Émilion and the traditional expectations of claret. (RH)
