Tasting Notes
The solera for this Oloroso was created in 1955, with the wine averaging between 40 and 50 years in age. It is made with pure Pedro Ximénez, sourced from higher-altitude vineyards in Sierra de Montilla and Moriles Alto. The nose of is full of furniture polish, walnuts, raisins and a touch of bonfire smoke. The palate is remarkably intense, with a full, voluptuous body and savoury, marmite intensity. There’s a furry, phenolic grip adding texture to this powerful wine, having intensified over its near-half-century in cask. Salty, smoky and nutty, this is long, dry, concentrated and balanced. 21.5% alcohol and around 6g/l residual sugar. Only 250 bottles were produced of this release, drawn from the solera in 2018.

There is also a saca 1/2018 of the NV 1955 Oloroso Solera Cincuentenario, a very old Oloroso of unusual finesse for its old age, and were it not for the presence of the Palo Cortado, you could think this was a candidate for such classification. It had notes of noble woods, a touch of varnish, and is perfumed and expressive, with a spirity touch. It's full-bodied and concentrated but remains very balanced. The finish is very long, clean and precise. Delicious! This bottling consists of 250 numbered bottles.
