Tasting notes
The 2021 T Voetpad is pure Chenin from Olifantsrivier. It has an almost minimalist nose that actually kicked into gear when I returned to my glass an hour later (so don't be afraid to reach for the decanter, folks!). Light pear, green olives, faint hints of pistachio almost meekly manifest, yet display wonderful delineation. The palate has superb weight and density, touches of lanolin and grilled walnut, background notes of fennel with just a deft oxidative touch on the smoky finish. Gorgeous. Tasted at the Columella vertical in Hong Kong.

The 2021 'T Voetpad is Sadie's most limited release, the vines really struggling with global warming. It has an attractive nose with lime, light Nashi pear scents and touches of orange blossom. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, slightly waxy in texture thanks to the Semillon, with a very persistent finish. Bides its time, this is a superb offering.
