50% Merlot, 50% Cabernet Sauvignon. 25% new oak for 16 months. Mid crimson. Straight, healthy, bright fruit. Not yet very subtle but with lots of ingredients ready to develop into something more complex. Very dry finish. But this is very promising and vital. GV (JR)

They 2016 Tour Haut-Cassan, a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Merlot, has an agreeable blackberry, undergrowth and tobacco-scented bouquet that seems to gain intensity in the glass but never gets carried away. The palate is medium-bodied with supple, fairly rounded tannin, certainly a smoother Medoc 2016 compared to others, although it needs more tension and complexity on the finish to rank with the best I have tasted in its category.
