Tasting notes
The 2019 Pinot Noir Rochioli Riverblock Vineyard is a stunning Pinot Noir from vines planted in 1989. Layered and pure, it takes its time to unfold to scents of cranberries, blueberries, orange peel, licorice, graphite and forest floor. The palate explodes with intense, sweet berry fruits, accents of Angostura bitters and earth adding to its complexity. Powdery and seamless, it finishes with tremendous length and promises to be very long lived in the cellar. Wow! (EB)

This is also wonderfully pure, cool and airy with its blend of essence of red currant, cherry, exotic tea and floral top notes. The mid-palate texture of the admirably concentrated medium weight flavors is smooth and velvety yet there is still reasonable definition to the mouth coating, firm, dusty and robustly powerful finish that displays both fine depth and persistence. There is a hint of warmth but it's sufficiently discreet that it does not materially detract from the overall sense of balance and overall, this markedly firm effort is stunningly good. *Outstanding*
An inviting nose of ripe raspberries, red and black cherries, cumin, dried herbs and tobacco leaf. Medium-bodied with fine, silky tannins and bright, energetic acidity. Succulent fruit and layered spice. Steady intensity with balance and length. Fennel and sweet herbs come through. The palate is cool and exciting, leaving your palate humming for a while.
Here too there is a vague smokiness to the more deeply pitched and spicy nose of plum and various dark berries. The rich, caressing and delicious medium weight flavors possess a seductive yet punchy mouthfeel that melds gracefully into the dusty and mildly warm finish that despite the warmth possess better overall balance. This does need to develop more depth, but it seems clean, not only from this wine's spectacular track record but also the sheer depth of material, that more complexity will progressively develop. *Outstanding*
