Score 88-90/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous
Purple color. Pure aromas of licorice, black olive and smoke. Sweet and tangy in the mouth, with kirsch and black raspberry fruitiness and finishing notes of spicy blackberry and licorice. Delicious wine. Allemand, who uses minimal sulfur in his other cuvées, says the tarry quality shown by so much Cornas is the effect of reduction resulting from (excessive) use of sulfur.

About the producer

Thierry Allemand
Allemand’s wines set the benchmark for Cornas: expressive Syrahs crafted with uncompromising traditional methods and released in tiny quantities. From the 1980s, he revived abandoned vineyards on Cornas’s steep granite slopes, building his domaine without inherited land or financial support.
