Score 96/100 · Drink 2026-2060, Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate, Sep 2023

From the stunningly coolish, west-facing slope of the cru and cultivated on blue marls topping the coralline limestone for 30 years, the Kår is always the latest-ripening Zieregg with the most challenging phenols (due to small, thick-skinned berries) and the most athletic and wiry character ("like a marathoner," says Armin Tement). Macerated for about 12 hours, vinified in a single doppelstück (2,400 liter) and two pièces, the 2020 Ried Zieregg Kår GSTK is a terrific, coolish and greenish Sauvignon Blanc with dense citrus fruit intermingled with phenols and crushed limes and salt. Very tonic, almost Verjus-styled in its energetic fresh-fruit character. Full-bodied, round and lush on the palate, this is a juicy, elegant and refined yet intense and very salty, savory and lemon-fresh, also dense and powerful Zieregg with a persistently crystalline and saline finish that is enormously salivating. Mouth-filling, dense and expressive, this is a great wine that needs some years to fully shine, but this is a safe bet. 13.5% stated alcohol. Glass stopper. Tasted in May 2023.

Tement's Chardonnay (a.k.a. Morillon) 2020 Morillon Ried Zieregg GSTK offers a deep, dense, very elegant and aromatic yet highly serious nose with ripe fruit and fine yeast and iodine notes. Juicy on the palate, but also exceedingly mineral, this is a punchy, highly complex, vital and elegant Chardonnay from coral limestone. The wine is still yeasty, but substantial and enormously saline, developing terrific, complex length. It is still very young and unlikely to drink with pleasure before 2026. 13% stated alcohol. Vinolok closure. Tasted in Grafenegg in September 2022.

Deep nose that’s very smoky and flinty, with candied-lemon and minty aromas. Very concentrated for such a cool and sleek chardonnay, also very focused with a very tightly wound tannin structure. So much chalky and lemony freshness drive the imposing and vibrant finish. Enormous aging potential! From organically grown grapes. Sustainable. Drink or hold. Glass stopper.
