Tasting notes
‘Demi-magnum’ as it is referred to on the label – 75 cl. Caberlot is bottled only in magnums, but samples for tasting are filled in 75-cl bottles. Impenetrable dark crimson. Fine, concentrated and layered nose of raspberry and damson with notes of chalk and hints of eucalyptus. Intense raspberry palate with incredible lightness on the palate for the fulness of fruit on a layer of chalky mineral notes and finely chiselled tannins. Very pure and dramatic and complex. (WS)

The 2021 Caberlot is a wine of mind-blowing intensity, complexity and nuance. Red cherry, plum, orange peel, spice, licorice, cedar and new leather are some of the many notes that grace this exquisite, resonant wine. It’s hard to remember many vintages in which Caberlot has this much fruit intensity, aromatic explosiveness and freshness. It is a riveting, absolutely stunning wine from the Rogosky family. Even with all of its intensity, the 2021 is not a huge nor opulent wine, but rather, it is the wine’s energy and intense minerality that really stand out. I look forward to tasting this again in the future, as I may be underrating it.
The 2021 Il Caberlot is just as impressive as it was last year, although it has closed down quite a bit since then. The aromatics alone are dazzling in their intensity. Grilled herbs, mocha, chocolate, exotic spice, lavender and menthol stain the palate. Caberlot is one of the great wines of this important, historic vintage in Tuscany. Mamma mia!
