(bottled last December): Light yellow. Very ripe aromas of pear, peach and hazelnut, plus hints of acacia flower and lichee. Smooth, silky wine with ripe stone fruit and herb flavors. But a bit blurry for this cuvée and not in class of the 2016. Has alcoholic weight but lacks the floral lift of a classic year. Finishes strong, though, with an element of nutmeats, a balsamic quality and a touch of youthful bitterness. Still, this wine could use more verve.

The 2015 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatières was more foursquare and conservative than some of the other barrel samples from the appellations of Chassagne or Meursault. The palate is well balanced with a waxy entry, notes of dried honey and hazelnut, though it closes up towards the finish. I'll reserve judgement for when this wine is in bottle, since it does not want to come out to play today.
Sample. Rich and tense on the nose. Pear juice and richness on the palate. Lots to chew on. Even a little bit of alcohol on the end! (JR)

Joseph Drouhin is one of the largest and most famous producers in Burgundy, making both domaine and négociant wines. It remains family-owned and run, now in the hands of the fourth generation.
