Tasting notes
The Montevertine 2022 Pian del Ciampolo is initially shy and requires extra time to open. You get wild berry notes, redcurrant, peat moss and tin can. This hot-vintage expression is made with 90% Sangiovese, 5% Canaiolo and 5% Colorino that fermented in glass-lined cement vats and aged in large oak casks. It is texturally smooth with silky tannins. Production is 20,000 bottles.

The 2022 Pian del Ciampolo is soft, succulent and ready to go. Readers will find plenty of immediacy in this Sangiovese-based red. Crushed red berry fruit, mint, spice, rose petal and earthy notes are nicely pushed forward. The 2022 is a fine Pian del Ciampolo. As usual, the blend is a combination of de-selected fruit and press lots.
