Blend of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Deep purple in colour. Roasted coffee bean and black fruit on the nose. A hint of liquorice sweetness on the palate. A little leafiness too, but the black fruit is pure at the core. Structured and firm at this stage, it will benefit from a few more years in bottle before opening up. (TP)

Starting with the 2015 Collina, which is an even split of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, this medium to full-bodied effort has terrific purity and freshness (especially for a 2015) as well as pretty notes of currants, strawberries, flowers, and hints of graphite. It’s medium to full-bodied, pure, and silky on the palate, and should keep for over a decade.

Then again, that is 2015. Black cherry, plum, spice, menthol and lavender are all pushed forward. Open-knit and juicy, the 2015 will drink well upon release. Collina Dalla Valle remains one of the best values in artisan Napa Valley Cabernet.

About the producer
Dalla Valle Vineyards was founded in 1986 by Naoko and her late husband Gustav Dalla Valle, in Oakville. Initially they had wanted to create a luxury resort, but when they discovered the potential of the site, they changed tack and decided to make wine.
