The 2013 Mormoreto, Nipozzano's Bordeaux blend, is very ripe, dark and oaky, with plenty of black cherry, mocha and plum flavors. I confess I don't understand the excessively sweet, oaky style here.

This wine follows its own distinct philosophy that marries it into the school of super Tuscan wines, and not the Chianti Rufina appellation where it is born. The 2013 Mormoreto is a bend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot that seems intent on escaping from its small town roots. It shows much bigger aspirations. This is a thick and succulent red wine with dark plum, blackberry, chocolate and exotic spice. The mouthfeel is lasting and powerful.
