The 2014 Barbaresco Riserva Camp Gros Martinenga needs to be decanted as it is more closed at the moment on opening, but it is worth the wait, as it reveals more vibrant red fruits, with fresh cranberry, rhubarb, leather, and orange peel. Linear and medium-framed, with fine tannins, it is drinking beautifully, with a lot of finesse and grace. Drink 2024-2040.

Marchesi di Grésy's 2014 Barbaresco Riserva Camp Gros Martinenga is a vibrant, finely-sculpted wine that captures the natural austerity of the year beautifully. Chalk, mint, pine, blood orange, rose petal and bright red cherry all develop in the glass, but it is really he wine's sizzling energy and tension that stand out most. This is an especially nervous style, and yet all the elements meld together so naturally. Pine, mint, cedar, tobacco, dried herbs add an attractive savory nuance as the wine starts to open up in the glass. The 2014 needs at least a few years in bottle, that is abundantly clear.

Freshly brewed peppermint tea, cedar, walnuts and tar on the nose set the framework for this Barbaresco. The full-bodied palate is quite round and fleshy, caressing the mouth with its gentle tannins and soft fruit. Touch of herbs on the finish. Drink from 2021.

Released with numbered bottles, the 2014 Barbaresco Riserva Camp Gros Martinenga is stitched together with fine silk threads. This expression weaves out a delicate embroidery of aromas with fine berry tones, smoke, tar, licorice and earthy white truffle notes. The bouquet starts off slowly but definitely builds in intensity. That delicate structure translates to a mouthfeel that is fine, elegant and satiny in texture.
