Tasting notes
Complex and already expressive, the 2019 Savigny-Les-Beaune 1er Cru La Dominode has a great nose of spiced raspberries and wild strawberries as well as sandalwood, peppery herbs, and flowers. Quite structured on the palate, it's medium-bodied, has a layered, elegant mouthfeel, background chocolaty oak, and building tannins that come through on the finish, which is clean and dry. This is beautifully done, and while it offers pleasure today, it deserves 2-3 years of bottle age. It's going to have 15+ of prime drinking.

Hereâs an example of what happened in 2019, if you harvested too late and werenât cautious enough making the wine. The ripe-blackberry fruit already seems a bit tired and the clove aroma a bit dominant. Full-bodied, thanks to the monolithic mass of tannin. Lacks the liveliness and elegance we expect from a young Savigny-Lès-Beaune. From organically grown grapes. Drink now.
Cask sample. Bright transparent crimson. Almost smells like candy! Straightforward and even a little simple with correct fruit and a little fine tannin that is a bit drying on the end. Room for development. (JR)
