Gianni Gagliardo's 2010 Barolo Preve has come together quite nicely since I tasted it a few months ago. The tannins have begun to soften, allowing the dark fruit to come through with greater precision and nuance. Cloves, mocha, spices and black cherries wrap around the brooding, potent finish in a virile Barolo to drink over the next decade or so.

Black cherries, plums, crushed rocks, pine and cloves jump from the glass in the 2010 Barolo Preve, all supported by incisive tannins that soften with some air. The exuberance of the fruit makes the Preve quite attractive today, but there is enough stuffing to ensure at least a handful of years of good drinking ahead.
