Tasting notes
Like the other wines in this portfolio, the Keermont Vineyards 2018 Stellenbosch Topside Syrah is quite ripe and shows baked aromas of stewed cherry and dark blackberry preserves. There's a sweet note on the finish, and the wine is plush and richly textured overall. Fruit comes from a single vineyard planted in 2006. Some whole-bunch fruit is used, and the wine ferments with wild yeast. It ages in barrel for 22 months. Production is 2,822 bottles.

The 2018 Syrah Single Vineyard Series Topside comes from more shale soils than the Steepside, with a slightly cooler microclimate. This makes a tangible difference on the nose, which has more delineation and mineralité, a little more floral in style. The palate is very well-balanced with a wonderful spice, and an unerring sense of symmetry with a precise and beautifully-controlled finish. Excellent.
