The 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Vergers 1er Cru has an individual bouquet: wild fennel, touches of aniseed complement the citrus fruit, a little pine. The palate is well balanced with a nutty, Meursault-like entry. It is missing a bit of complexity and precision towards the finish that feels a little blocky. Moderate length. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 white tasting.

Tank sample. Horribly heavy bottle. Smoky citrus. Again that slight phenolic hardness that I found on the Morgeot. Certainly fresh and zesty but slightly chewy and hard on the finish. (JH)
The 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Vergers 1er Cru has a strict, focused bouquet with crushed pebbles infusing the citrus lemon and orange pith aromas. The palate is well balanced with a walnut-tinged opening, a fine bead of acidity with a lively, lightly spiced finish that lingers in the mouth. Subtle, but charming.
A whiff of matchstick character can be found on the ripe aromas of both white and yellow orchard fruit, resin and wood toast. The rich, generously proportioned and succulent medium-bodied flavors also possess good punch that carries over to the nicely persistent finish that is shaped by lemon-tinged acidity.
