Score 91/100 · Drink 2019-2035, Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate, Mar 2020
From the coolish, slowly ripening cru between Pfaffenberg and Loibenberg, the 2018 Ried Steinertal Grüner Veltliner Smaragd opens with a clear and coolish, flinty bouquet of white and greenish fruits and spicy phenolic aromas. Lush and intense on the palate, this is a pretty round, rich and charming Veltliner for this vineyard and a good transition to the Loibenberg. Bottled in August 2019. Tasted at the domain in September 2019.

Their coolest vineyard. Good intensity on the nose, even if it’s a little rounder than usual on the palate. There is a beginning, middle and end to this wine – particularly a long finish – but it’s not as compelling as usual. (JR)
