The 2018 "Todeschini" from Château Mangot has a richer bouquet than the regular cuvée with precocious blueberry, cassis and boysenberry fruit laced with violets. The palate is medium-bodied with sweet candied black fruit laced with cassis and citrus fruit. I actually prefer the regular cuvée although at least this has sufficient freshness if not the refinement of some of its peers.

Similarly inky colored, the 2018 Château Mangot Todeschini is a step up, offering terrific purity and intensity in its black raspberry and cassis fruits as well as more lead pencil and mineral-laced aromas and flavors. Medium to full-bodied, fresh, focused, and concentrated, with a terrific mid-palate, it’s a seriously good barrel sample from this estate that’s going to keep for two decades. Tasted twice.
Composed of 40% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Franc and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2018 Todeschini is deep garnet-purple colored and gives up broody notions of new leather, crushed stones and tar with a core of baked red and black cherries, mulberries and warm plums plus wafts of garrigue and fragrant earth. Full-bodied, firm and grainy in the mouth, it has loads of muscular fruit and a lively line, finishing perfumed.
This is really cool with dark-berry, chocolate and spice character. Full-bodied, juicy and long. Partially made in amphora with cabernet franc.
