A cooler, more classic vintage than 2018, apparently. Aged 30 months in botte. Light bricky red. Seductively sweet, senescent red fruit, fresh orange plum and red cherry. Gorgeous tannins: dry, finely grained, almost chalky – lots of them. Fresh and lingering. Dry and chewy on the long, fresh, harmonious finish. Well priced. (JH)

The organic Barale Fratelli 2019 Barolo Castellero is a firm and solid expression of Nebbiolo with fruit from the center of the appellation. That consistency of character is a common trait that I find across these wines from 2019. The wine's texture makes a nice sounding board for flavors of dried cherry, licorice, crushed flower and ginger root. You get wonderful balance, elegance and power all in one place. Only 3,700 bottles were made.
The 2019 Barolo Castellero is a powerful, beguiling wine. Deeply pitched spice and floral notes play off a core of dark cherry/plum fruit. There's good depth here, and tons of character, too. This is promising.
