Drink 0-0, Neal Martin, Oct 2025

The 2021 Volnay Taillepieds 1er Cru seems to have a little more extraction on the nose but lacks the complexity and terroir expression of the best wines in this flight. Raspberry and a touch of tomato vines imply just a little underripeness. That said, these aromatics are not unpleasant in the slightest. Returning after 10 minutes... oh... is that a dirty dishwater scent? Corked? The palate is armed with sour cherry on the entry, firm tannins, and a grainy texture with darker fruit towards the finish. However, it lacks precision and feels a bit angular overall. I suspect there is marginal TCA at play. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2021 Volnay Les Taillepieds 1er Cru is one cuvée that felt just a bit dilute on the nose. It does not say much. The palate is marked by bitter cherry on the entry, rigid tannins and it needs more flesh on the bones on the finish. A bit raw.
