Tasting notes
Score 89/100 · Drink 2013-2019, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, May 2011

The 2007 Toscana Rosso is a very pretty wine. The warm, radiant personality comes through in the generous, supple red fruit. Rose petal, red cherries and flowers linger on the caressing finish. This is a tasty wine from Cerbaiona that shows much less of an international personality than I would have thought given the high percentage of international varieties. The blend is 40% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Malvasia Nera and 15% Syrah. The Rosso spent eighteen months in cask.

Of all the Brunelli in the cellar the most promising appears to be the 2010, while vintages 2007, 2008 and 2009 are less interesting, at least today. Prices have gone up considerably, especially for the 2006 Brunello, and the Rosso is undoubtedly very expensive, but at their best, the Cerbaiona wines deliver the goods. This continues to be one of my favorite vineyard sites for fine, traditionally made Brunello. Both Diego and Nora Molinari have battled health issues of late. I know I am not alone in wishing them speedy recoveries. Importers: Vias Imports, New York, NY; tel. (212) 629-0200; The Rare Wine Co., Sonoma, CA; tel. (707) 996-4484

Cerbaiona

A cult address for many Italian fine wine lovers, Cerbaiona is one of Montalcino’s top estates. The site has long been identified as special, but it was Diego Molinari who established its reputation. Today, Matthew Fioretti is at the helm, bringing the estate into the modern era.
