The 2016 Rosso Riserva Il Musmeci is remarkably pretty and finessed, with sweet spices and rose petals complementing nuances of dried strawberry. It’s silky and round with pronounced acidity that adds verve, as a burst of sour citrus gives way to tart cherries and hints of clove. Grippy tannins come forward toward the close, creating a classically dry and youthful expression, yet with a staining of primary concentration to balance. This is a very feminine example of Il Musmeci, yet it will need a short stay in the cellar before showing its best.
