Tasting notes
Martin Nigl Junior's 2015 Ried Pellingen 1ÖTW Riesling Privat offers a clear, ripe and complex nose with deep mineral and flinty aromas of crushed stones. Full-bodied, round and rich but also clear, fresh and well structured on the palate, this is a powerful, elegant, silky-textured Riesling with a wide, long and complex finish. One of the finest wines I have tasted from this estate in years. Tasted in July 2017.

Generously juicy ripe apple and honeydew melon, wreathed in the nose with iris and lily-of-the-valley, subsequently inform a lush yet surprisingly buoyant palate. Cooling green herbal essences add to the allure of a performance strikingly transparent to stone and iodine nuances as well as inner-mouth floral perfume, leading to a finish at once luscious and nearly ethereal. (I last tasted this in June 2016, shortly ahead of its bottling.)
