The 2014 de Lamarque has an unorthodox, almost Tuscan-scented bouquet that feels a little over-extracted. The palate is medium-bodied with sweet, almost saturated tannin. There is density and assertiveness to this wine, moderate acidity, though the finish lacks the grace and detail of the 2014 Chasse-Spleen. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.

Tasted blind. Dark crimson. Light but mellow nose. Racy and elegant. Far from a blockbuster but nicely balanced as a relatively lightweight claret. Very fine tannins. (JR)
The 2014 Lamarque offers attractive blackberry, briary and graphite scents on the nose that gain intensity nicely with just a few swirls of the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple ripe redcurrant and cranberry fruit infused with sage and black pepper. It shows a touch of gaminess towards the finish, a Château de Lamarque that should drink well from two, perhaps three years in bottle. Tasted three times with consistent notes.
Deepest crimson. Smells ripe and dark and sweet-fruited – stands out in this range of Haut-Médocs. Almost a hint of fruit cake. Chewy and thick in texture, and slightly bitter on the finish, as if it had been worked a little too hard. (JH)
