Tasting notes
Red plums, sweet tobacco, toasted nuts, toast, and chocolaty orange-like notes all define the 2012 Colheita, a nicely textured, medium to full-bodied, balanced Colheita with a clean, balanced, elegant profile.

A relatively cool year, explained managing director Christian Seely. Aged in old casks of 640 litres known as cascos until bottling in 2023. RS 104 g/l, pH 3.55. Deep tawny colour. A little bit spirity at first. Dried apricots and raisins and a touch of bitter orange. Still very young with quite firm tannins. A rather youthful colheita? Intense, complex but still very young. Still – remarkably – has some red fruit on the finish. I find this a bit harsh/raw despite its 10 years on barrel. (JH)
