Tasting notes
The 2017 Purple Rose is gorgeous. Ample and generous on the palate, with lovely depth and silkiness, the 2017 Purple Rose is a serious wine endowed with terrific depth and tons of textural nuance. Blood orange, star anise, crushed rose petals and mint give the 2017 an exotic flair. The Purple Rose is mostly a saignée of Sangiovese.

The Castello di Ama 2017 Purple Rose is a solasso (or saignée) method rosé made with primarily Sangiovese grapes (with some Merlot). The wine is fermented in stainless steel and only partially aged in barrel. It underwent partial malolactic fermentation. You feel the alcohol from the warm vintage, but there is no apparent residual sugar. The bouquet opens to aromas of candied fruit, summer cherry and sweet almond paste.
