A blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot, Realm's 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Farella Vineyard shows off the dark fruit common in Coombsville. Scents of black cherries and cassis are joined by hints of sage and cedar on the nose, while the full-bodied palate is tightly coiled but ripe, framed by softly dusty tannins on the lingering, mocha-stained finish. Lots of black currant and lead pencil shaving aromas here. Full-bodied with very fine tannins with a freshness and brightness. Some graphite and magnet shavings, too. Juicy and flavorful. Coombsville magic here. 95% cabernet sauvignon and 5% merlot. (JD)
The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Farella Vineyard is positively stellar. Dark fruit, savory herbs, leather, licorice and menthol race out of the glass. Powerful and vertical, with serious intensity, the 2021 is a super-classic Coombsville Cabernet Sauvignon. All the elements are so well balanced. Graphite, incense and a whole range of mineral/savory tones linger on the brooding finish. Specifically, the tannins are incredibly refined—quite an achievement for this site. A dollop of Merlot likely contributes to that. (AG)
Also all Cabernet Sauvignon, and the first vintage where this team has also done the farming, the 2018 Farella Estate spent 16 months in 75% new French oak. More vibrant red and blue fruits, graphite, flowers, and spice notes define this beauty, which is full-bodied and has an elegant, seamless texture, great tannins, and a beautiful, classy style.
