The 2014 Cap du Mourlin is quite reticent on the nose, but gradually opens with red cherry and raspberry coulis aromas, veins of cedar in the background. The palate is ripe on the entry with soy-tinged red berry fruit, a crisp line of acidity that leads to a compact, slightly heady finish that just needs a little more restraint. This just feels a little pushed when there was no need.
The 2014 Cap de Mourlin has turned out better than I expected. Plump, juicy and voluptuous, it offers considerable near-term potential. Blue and purplish stone fruit, lavender, licorice and dark spice give the 2014 its plump, juicy feel. This is a decidedly ripe, flashy style that works nicely.
Blackish with so much ripeness on the nose that there are even notes of black cherry. Very aggressively ‘modern’ with a sensation of damp fur. A bit over the top. Astringent and rather sudden finish. (JR)
