Tasting notes
This wine is made with non-estate Nebbiolo sourced from the Barbaresco area. Maria Teresa Mascarello has been buying from the same family near Alba for 20 years, and the two parties enjoy a tight relationship. The Bartolo Mascarello 2022 Langhe Nebbiolo shows great freshness and an elegant style with very finely textured tannins. This wine ages in Slavonian oak for 22 months. Fermentation for this wine, along with the Barbera, Dolcetto and Freisa, is completed to dryness with inoculated yeasts in cement. Some skin contact is implemented, but stronger cap management methods like punch-downs never happen. Instead of breaking the cap, the winery team likes to keep it wet or infused.

Pale, youthful crimson. Gorgeous, deep nose, almost explosive in its savoury minerality. Salty, savoury cherry fruit with a layer of fine, long tannins. Transparent. (WS)
The 2022 Langhe Nebbiolo is a fine entry-level offering from Maria Teresa Mascarello. It shows good depth, along with slightly nervy tannins that suggest a year or two in bottle will be beneficial. Crushed red berry fruit, chalk, white pepper and spice resonate on the finish.
