The 2021 Château Haut-Beauséjour is impressive, and it's certain a rock-solid Saint-Estèphe that's worth seeking out, especially if you love the classic, fresh, old-school style of Bordeaux. Crunchy red and black cherries, damp earth, cedary herbs, and sappy, floral nuances, as well as that classic damp earth character of Saint-Estèphe, all emerge from this medium-bodied, balanced, nicely concentrated red. It has the vintage's fresher style, but this brings good ripeness and depth. It will evolve gracefully for at least 10-12 years, if not longer.

The 2021 Haut-Beauséjour is a soft, easygoing Saint-Estèphe. Although not the last word in complexity, the 2021 is tasty, nicely balanced and easy to like. Crushed flowers, iron, mint, white pepper and cedar add layers of nuance. Readers could certainly do a lot worse in this vintage.
This is the first vintage in new cellars and a good vintage to have the extra flexibility of smaller and more plentiful tanks. Pretty smoky in its oak impact right from the first nose, intense with a touch of reduction. There are clear blackberry fruits, well made if austere. Pierre Rousseau owner since 2017, as at Lafitte Carcasset next door, clay-gravel soils.
