The 2020 Meursault Les Bouchères 1er Cru has a lively nose with traces of nutmeg and walnut. There's a faint touch of wild fennel in the background. There is something almost Provençal about these aromatics. The palate is cohesive and demonstrates impressive concentration. There is a patina of new oak to be absorbed, with modest depth and plenty of extract in evidence towards the finish. Perhaps it doesn't fully deliver the nuance of the best Meursaults, but it remains what you might call a very "capable" wine that will surely improve with another couple of years in the bottle. Full bottle 1,338 g. Certified organic. Fourth-generation producer based in Meursault. Look at that price for the glamour and inflationary effect of the name Meursault. Pale greenish straw. Light nose. Excellent savour and lemon acidity on the palate and good balance and persistence. It does build towards the finish but I would suggest waiting for more aroma to develop and the youthful acidity to subside. (JR)
