A cold, wet June, hot and dry July and August. She picked this on 19 August.  Smells so very pretty – cherry blossom, cherries, strawberries. A nose that makes you smile. This is stunning. So fractal with detail. Exquisitely pretty and yet pretty damn serious. Brimming with fruit and presence, and yet there is almost no weight. Diaphanous tannins and yet they shape the wine, almost invisibly. The wine moves like waves up a beach, up and sighing back. Everything about this wine is like a caress with a feather with a ruby jewel at its tip. Incredibly long and dancing on tiptoes. Feels as if the texture is hand-embroidered silk. Surely this is close-to-perfect Morgon? (TC)

The 2020 Morgon Corcelette has turned out especially well, bursting with aromas of cherries, raspberries, forest floor, cracked pepper and petals. Medium to full-bodied, bright and succulent, with a fleshy core of fruit, powdery tannins and lively acids, it will offer a broad drinking window.

Full bottle 1,304 g. A classic Mee Godard origami of breathlessly fine contours, chiselled sinew; unfolding corners into shapes, phrases into stories written between the lines. The flute-like purity of the fruit reminds me of Maya Angelou's line, 'she carried the music in her body as if it were a private thing, given into her care and protection'. There is only one other wine I've found this in. The long leitmotif of dark-red fruit – velvet, chypre-scented, lithographic at heart – curve-carves a parabola in the mouth. Quiet, taut beauty; serious but irresistible. (TC)

What a strikingly original wine for this region! The smoked-bacon note in the nose would have made me think of the Northern Rhone in a totally blind tasting. On the palate there’s impressive creamy richness that makes me think of bacon fat sinking into good white bread. So much drive and energy at the finish, thanks to the very healthy, dry tannins. Drink or hold.
