Score 85/100 · Drink 1991-2005, Robert Parker, Aug 1993
This is another austere, hard, tough style of Canon that possesses more tannin than fruit or body. Its reluctant bouquet offers up spicy, berry fruit and aromas of new oak. Medium-bodied, sinewy, and lean, the 1978 Canon is either completely closed or is a tough, hard wine that will never attain harmony. Last tasted, 6/93.
