This historic vineyard was planted by Luigi Scavino's father Lorenzo in the 1940s and has been producing the estate's top-shelf wines ever since. The 2011 Barolo Bricco Fiasco is a perfumed and elegant wine that gets its message across even in a warm vintage such as this. This vineyard site in Castiglione Falletto has loose, sandy soils that help to enhance the wine's aromatic intensity and finesse. The elegant bouquet offers wild berry, violets and white truffle.

Castiglione Falletto. Palish ruby. Gently and sweetly cherry fruited with just a hint of spice. Fine texture, just a little grainy. Pretty gentle overall but persistent and the tannins build on the finish. (JH)
Castiglione Falletto. Maturing mid ruby with bright, orange rim. Cherry and herb liqueur nose with hints of pet shop. Cherry-fruit palate with a curious, exotic bitter undertow. Shows proper aromatic development on the finish and with some formidable tannins too. Unpolished. (WS)
Palish ruby with orange tinges. Just a little charred on the nose with notes of sweet baking spices. Very ripe fruit palate with gripping tannins and already a little developed, but the finish is succulent if a little dry. Should improve with more bottle age. (WS)
