Tasting notes
The 2018 Les Angelots de Gracia has a well-defined nose of kirsch, blood orange, rose petals and still that background hint of cola. There is plenty of energy here, though it is nicely channeled. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-boned tannins, and quite saline compared to the 2018 Gracia , leading into a sapid, classically styled finish. This is almost as good as the Gracia and I suspect that it will age well in bottle.

Made by Michel Gracia, the 2018 Les Angelots De Gracia comes from single parcel of old vines situated between Angélus and Fondrazade, which consists of slightly more sandy, clay, and limestone soils. A blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, it reveals a vivid ruby/purple hue to go with a beautiful perfume of black cherries, candied violets, tobacco, sandalwood, and a hint of white truffle. I love its complexity and nuance, and it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness that carries ripe, polished tannins, no hard edges, and outstanding length. This never has the grandeur of Michel's top cuvée, but it's a beautiful, layered, silky wine in its own right that will charm for 10-15 years.
The 2018 Les Angelots de Gracia is an attractive Saint-Émilion. Floral and savory Cabernet Franc aromatics add nuance to a core of Merlot fruit. Crushed flowers, mint, mocha and ripe red cherry fruit abound. I would prefer to drink the 2018 over the next 10-15 years or so, as some of the initial intensity tapers off on the finish, and that will become more evident over time. Still, this is nicely done.
A blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, aged in 100% new barrels and with 14% alcohol, the deep garnet-purple colored 2018 Les Angelots de Gracia rolls effortlessly out of the glass with bold scents of stewed black plums, baked blueberries and boysenberries, plus suggestions of cedar chest, pencil lead, star anise and violets with a touch of wild mushrooms. The medium to full-bodied palate has a plush texture, tons of freshness and bags of juicy black fruits, finishing on a lingering fragrant earth note.
