Score 92/100 · Drink 2025-2035, Neal Martin, Feb 2025

The 1964 Clos Fourtet is a turn-up for the books insofar that older vintages from this era have never really impressed. This bottle is a reminder to keep an open mind. It has a ripe cassis bouquet, clean with hints of iodine and baked gingerbread. The palate is framed by surprisingly silky tannins, and I was not the only person to remark that it is redolent of a fine mature Barolo! Harmonious if perhaps a little simple on the finish, this is nevertheless a very fine Saint-Émilion. Tasted at Noizé restaurant in London.
